McLaughlin College Orientation 2019
YORK ORIENTATION DAY/ACADEMIC ORIENTATION 2019
Message from Dr. James C. Simeon, Head of McLaughlin College
Welcome to McLaughlin College! All students who are enrolled at York University and who are majoring in one of our affiliated academic programs – Criminology, Global Political Studies, Interdisciplinary Social Science, Law and Society, Political Science, Public Administration, Sociology or Work and Labour Studies – are members of McLaughlin College. You will find that your college is your intellectual, recreational and social community of students, faculty, staff, and Fellows who will be providing you with your “home away from home”.
McLaughlin College will provide you with a wide set of extra-curricular activities that are specifically designed to accelerate your learning and to promote your growth and development as “whole person.” I hope to see you at many of these throughout the academic year, beginning with the mandatory York University Academic Orientation, on Tuesday September 3rd, when I will have the opportunity to you meet you personally as well. You will also be meeting your Peer Mentor and other student leaders. And, most importantly, you will also be introduced to all the academic services, programs, recreational activities, and other facilities available to you at McLaughlin College and throughout YorkU to help with your transition to University.

You are cordially invited to attend our College Matriculation ceremonies and Common Read event that will be held on Wednesday, September 4th, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, in the McLaughlin College Junior Common Room, 014 McLaughlin College. All first-year McLaughlin College students have been asked to read, How to Succeed at University (and get a great job), that was written by two of our College’s most accomplished Fellows, Professors Thomas R. Klassen and John A. Dwyer. In fact, Professor Klassen will be leading the first Common Read session immediately following our College Matriculation ceremonies, where you will be asked to sign our College register that will record you as a member of McLaughlin College. *Click here to access the free copy of the book: http://www.ubcpress.ca/asset/20105/1/9780774838993_Web.pdf
